Bielefeld, 03 June 2026

In all of Bielefeld's outdoor and indoor swimming pools, children up to and including ten years of age must from now on only enter the water accompanied by a person at least 16 years old.

Background: Demand from the Association of Swimming Pool Supervisors

The new access rules have been in effect since the beginning of June and were announced by Stadtwerke Bielefeld. As reported by WDR in its local program Ostwestfalen-Lippe on June 2, 2026, the tightening affects all municipal outdoor and indoor swimming pools equally. The municipal utility company is thus reacting to a broader debate about the safety of children in swimming pools and to experiences from the current outdoor pool season.
