Tehran/Washington, 11 June 2026

The USA and Iran have exchanged fire with drones, missiles and cruise missiles for the second consecutive night, with the Iranian military announcing the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and attacking US bases in several Gulf states.

Background: A ceasefire under pressure

The situation between the USA and Iran escalated dramatically overnight into Wednesday. As a Fox News reporter reported, citing US President Donald Trump, dozens of Tomahawk cruise missiles were fired. The closest target to the Iranian capital Tehran was reportedly a few dozen kilometers outside the city. Trump had already spoken directly with Iranian representatives, Trump told Fox News. They had asked him to stop the bombing. Trump said this would happen shortly. However, he kept the option of further attacks open. At the same time, Trump threatened: Should Tehran fail to sign a framework agreement to end the war, "we will bomb them into the ground," Trump threatened accordingly.
